The collection includes documents from his years as governor, Jackson County records, and Briggs family papers. Many of the documents from the years as governor are letters and petitions related to various political matters. Among the correspondence is a set of letters from the county clerks of several Iowa counties giving the aggregate number of white, able bodied males (ages 18 to 45) subject to military duty. The letter from the Johnson County clerk lists each male by name. The family papers include letters, diaries, legal records, bills and receipts, and land deeds. Other miscellaneous materials in the collection include 2 leather pouches; a copy of the Sept. 1908 issue of the Annals of Jackson County; and newspaper clippings including obituaries and other articles related to various family members.
